Much of the music I write is too hard for me to play well. I started writing my pieces roughly at the same time as I took up classical guitar again after a very long break, and the technique just wasn't there. I don't write to my own abilities - if the music demands something, that is what I write, regardless of the stretches, leaps and contortions it requires of the player. Slowly, slowly, my standard of playing is improving and I can give at least a respectable account of anything I write. But there is a world of difference between a good amateur player, as I aspire to be, and a concert-level professional.
